Press Release:

Half Moon Bay, CA
Coastside Peace of Half Moon Bay presents Richard Heinberg, author of “The Party’s Over; Oil, War and the Fate of Industrial Societies”.

The event takes place on Friday November 7th at 7:30 PM at the Ted Adcock Community Center, 535 Kelly Ave. in Half Moon Bay. Kelly Avenue is the first cross street south of Highway 92. The Ted Adcock Center is located 1/2 block east of Highway 1 on Kelly Avenue. There is no cost to attend, although donations will be gratefully accepted.

The world is about to change dramatically and permanently as a result of oil depletion. Within the next few years, the global production of oil will peak. Thereafter, even with a switch to alternative energy sources, industrial societies will have less energy available to do all the things essential to their survival. We are entering a new era as different from the industrial one as the latter was from medieval times. Heinberg makes a compelling case for this conclusion and offers eminently sensible recommendations about how to face the social, economic, political, and individual lifestyle changes that will be imposed upon us.

Richard Heinberg is a journalist, educator, lecturer, and musician. He has lectured widely, appearing on national radio and television in various countries, and is the author of five books. Heinberg is a member of the Core Faculty of New College of California, where he teaches courses on ‘Energy and Society’ and ‘Culture, Ecology, and Sustainable Community’. His award winning newsletter is available at http://www.musletter.com.
