Upcoming Special EventsCompassionate Communication Workshop - Saturday March 12th 11:00 - 3:00 PM at the Point Montara Lighthouse This hands on workshop is designed to provide simple yet effective skills for communicating, especially in challenging situations. In this training participants will learn to identify blocks in communication and resolve differences in peaceful and satisfying ways. The skills explored in the workshop are applicable to all relationships from family and friends to co-workers and clients. Developed by Nobel Peace Prize nominee and international mediator Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, Compassionate Communication (also known as Nonviolent Communication) has transformed lives around the world for over 40 years. Ursula Duncan will facilitate this popular workshop and has trained extensively with Dr. Rosenberg. A mediator, communication coach, and Compassionate Communication Trainer, she has introduced this model of communication training to people in the Bay Area for over 7 years. Duncan believes her life was radically improved by this method and loves sharing it with others. According to her, "Compassionate Communication helps you connect in a way where everyone’s needs are met, and it applies to all your relationships—including the one with yourself." Admission to the workshop is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. (Proceeds from the event will cover the costs of the organizers). Space is limited, so participants are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance and receive the discount price by calling Coastside Peace at (650) 712-9616. The Point Montara Lighthouse Hostel is located on the west side of Highway One, at 16th Street in Montara, south of Devil’s Slide. Those attending the event should also bring a bag lunch. Richard Heinberg - November 7th 2003 at the Ted Adcock Center The world is about to change dramatically and permanently as a result of oil depletion. Within the next few years, the global production of oil will peak. Thereafter, even with a switch to alternative energy sources, industrial societies will have less energy available to do all the things essential to their survival. We are entering a new era as different from the industrial one as the latter was from medieval times. Heinberg makes a compelling case for this conclusion and offers eminently sensible recommendations about how to face the social, economic, political, and individual lifestyle changes that will be imposed upon us.
