BEYOND TREASON - Moday May 29 at 7:30

An award-winning 90-minute documentary film
Free public screening this Memorial Day
Monday, May 29th 2006, 7:30 p.m.
The Depot, 110 Higgins-Purissima Road, Half Moon Bay

BEYOND TREASON exposes the horrific history of
government-funded experimentation upon military personnel
and US citizens, conducted without their knowledge or
consent. Comprehensive and compelling documentation, from
Department of Defense documents obtained through the Freedom
of Information Act, demonstrates a massive cover-up lasting
over two generations. Beyond the disclosure of
"black-ops" projects spanning the past six decades, this
90-minute documentary also addresses the complex subject of
Gulf War Illness. It includes interviews with experts, both
civilian and military, who claim that the government is
hiding the truth from the public and they can prove it.

Then They Came for Me

First they came for the Muslims, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Muslim.

Then they came to detain immigrants indefinitely solely upon the certification of the Attorney General, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't an immigrant.

Then they came to eavesdrop on suspects consulting with their attorneys, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a suspect.

Then they came to prosecute non-citizens before secret military commissions, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a non-citizen.

Then they came to enter homes and offices for unannounced "sneak and peek" searches, and I didn't speak up because I had nothing to hide.

Then they came to reinstate Cointelpro and resume the infiltration and surveillance of domestic religious and political groups, and I didn't speak up because I had stopped participating in any groups.

Then they came for anyone who objected to government policy because it aided the terrorists and gave ammunition to America's enemies, and I didn't speak up because...... I didn't speak up.

Then they came for me....... and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Film: Koyaanisqatsi Fri Jan 21 7:30 Depot Bldg

A Hopi word, Koyaanisqatsi means “life out of balance.” The natural wonders of our world are contrasted with its technological marvels, its artificial mass-marketed products and cities that hum with the energy of millions of lights and thousands of vehicles. Somewhere in this screaming hive, human beings strive to remain human. The absence of voiceover or other overt message allows focus on the powerful visual images. Phillip Glass provides the stunning original musical score. Directed by Godfrey Reggio. 87 minutes with discussion following.

Shown at the Johnston House Ocean Shore Depot at 800 Higgins Canyon Rd, near the South end of Main Street, 1/4 mile up on the right, near the Historic Johnston House.

Media hacked to draw attention to Bhopal & Dow

According to Democracy Now, a member of the tiny radical group The Yes Men successfully hacked the global media by appearing on BBC TV posing as a spokesperson for Dow Chemical and announcing that "Dow had accepted responsibility for the Bhopal accident and had set-up a multibillion dollar compensation package". The interview ran twice on BBC and was picked up by Reuters and other news services before Dow issued a denial. The interview came about when a BBC producer emailed the group through its DowEthics.com website which mimics the actual Dow website.

Dow, which bought Union Carbide three years ago, has always maintained it "has no responsibility" for the 1984 disaster when tons of lethal gases leaked from a Union Carbide pesticide factory in the city of Bhopal, India. 7,000 people lost their lives within days. 15,000 more lost died in the following years. Around 100,000 others are still suffering chronic and debilitating illnesses.

Film A Lot In Common Friday Nov 19th 7:30

If you’ve got the post-election blues, mother earth has some time-honored solutions: Create something! Get your hands in the soil! Build community!

FRIDAY NIGHT, NOV.19TH AT 7:30 PM there will be a showing of a 76 minute VIDEO DOCUMENTARY titled A LOT IN COMMON. This film documents the creation of a community garden in Berkeley.

The city of HMB has purchased 22 acres along Hwy. 92 to turn into a city park. Right now the entire park is "up for grabs." So now is the time for folk to come forward with their ideas and plans. If you would like to see the new park capture the spirit of the residents of HMB, if you want to put on your thinking cap and enter into a conversation on the topic, you’ll want to spend some fun community time with us tonight.

“Neighbors build a garden and discover they have A Lot in Common when together they turn a vacant lot in Berkeley, CA into a blooming community garden full of lush vegetation and outdoor artwork by local artists. They clash over political ideals, runaway pets and public art, yet in the end, they grow a community of neighbors.”

Event is at the Johnston House Ocean Shore Depot at 800 Higgins Canyon Rd, near the South end of Main Street, 1/4 mile up on the right, near the Historic Johnston House. Admission is Free (donations are welcome).
